Gallery Oseredok and Loch Gallery bring together fifty-six sculptures, paintings, and drawings in tribute to one of Canada's most prominent sculptors - Leo Mol.

Born Leonid Molodozhanyn in 1915 in Ukraine, Leo Mol learned to work with clay from his father, a potter.

Although he initially planned to study painting, Mr. Mol chose sculpture instead, which he studied in Leningrad from 1936 to 1940. In 1943 he continued his studies in The Hague, and in December, 1948 Mr. Mol and his wife, Magareth, arrived in Winnipeg.

Since then Mr. Mol has carried out commissions for sculptures and monuments across the globe. The subjects of his sculptures include such prominent historical personalities as Winston Churchill, Pope John Paul II, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and John Diefenbaker. He has also sculpted the human form, wildlife, religious subjects, and sculptures with Ukrainian themes.

Mr. Mol created three monuments to Ukraine's most famous poet Taras Shevchenko, which are located in Washington, DC, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Prudentopolis, Brazil.

Mr. Mol has produced a number of major stained-glass windows across Canada. He is also known for his ceramic figures, paintings, drawings, and etchings.

The world-famous Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park was opened in 1992 to honour Mr. Mol's creative endeavours. More than 300 bronzes, ceramics, paintings and drawings by Mr. Mol are permanently on view.

Mr. Mol was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1989. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, a member and past president of the Manitoba Society of Artists, member of the Sculptor's Society of Canada, the Allied Artists of America, Munchener Kunstlergenossenschaft, and the Ukrainian Artists Association of Canada.
