Rural and Small Town Manitoba - People, Work, Home & Enterprise
The first Ukrainian rural settlements in Manitoba were established in 1896. By 1900 five "bloc settlements," where Ukrainians formed a plurality of the population, had emerged: (1) Stuartburn in southeastern Manitoba; (2) Brokenhead-Whitemouth northeast of Winnipeg; (3) the Interlake north of Winnipeg; (4) Shoal Lake on the southern slopes of the Riding Mountains; and (5) Dauphin, north of the Riding Mountains.
